Major General James Begley is a member of the Government Relations & Audit Committees. Prior to retirement, Major General James P. Begley served as the National Guard Bureau J6 Chief Information Officer. Major General Begley provided strategic guidance and information sharing involving command, control, communications, computer systems and cyber support to joint military, interagency, Combatant Commands and State Joint Force Headquarters. Prior to that assignment, Major General Begley was the Assistant Adjutant General – Army, Delaware National Guard. In that capacity, he ensured that all assigned units and personnel were fully trained, deployable and equipped for mobilization to support overseas contingency operations and any other homeland defense operation in support of the Nation’s needs and those of the Governor of the State of Delaware.
In 2013, Major General Begley briefly served as the Director, Army CIO/G6 Architecture, Operations, Networks, and Space (AONS). General Begley deployed to Iraq in 2006 as Commander, 198th Signal Battalion. Upon returning from Iraq, Major General Begley served as the Executive Officer, NGB J6 Chief Information Officer (CIO). In September 2005, he led a Delaware Army National Guard team to Louisiana in support of recovery and restoration operations in the Pelican Joint Operations Center J6 after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Based on lessons learned from both hurricanes, Major General Begley applied his experience as the Joint C4 Coordination Center (JCCC) Project Officer for the NGB J6 CIO.
Major General Begley received his commission from the Virginia Military Institute in 1985. While on active duty, he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, stationed in Germany and later, deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm as Battalion Signal Officer, 4th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery (Patriot).
